Pakistan’s first ever Drone Food Delivery ‘pandafly’, a great new initiative by Foodpanda

A leading online food and grocery delivery platform, foodpanda, introduced a customized drone which was successfully used on Friday to test food delivery.

Foodpanda Pakistan originally started with online food delivery and has over 15,000 restaurants available in top cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. Now it even offers grocery stores to shop from like Al-Fatah & Greenvalley. With the purpose of benefitting the people in the best way possible, foodpanda is now testing drone food delivery.

In association with the office of DCI (Deputy Commissioner Islamabad), the test flight of drone – named ‘pandafly’, took place in F-9 Park.

With the purpose of especially benefitting the customers living in the outskirts of the city and remote areas, the use of this advanced technology by foodpanda means faster deliveries will now be possible over longer distances.

Since they have limited food options in such local remote areas, with this drone, they will be able to order from main urban areas as well. The drone will drop off the parcel at the designated point in each zone, from where the foodpanda rider will pick the parcel and deliver it to the customer, completing the last mile of the delivery.

Communicating his perspectives, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Hamza Shafqaat said: “E-commerce and the use of technology to serve the citizens is definitely the future and the Islamabad civil administration stands committed to supporting anyone who takes the initiative to provide greater convenience and facilities for the public.”

He said the district organization was taking on innovative advancements by launching the City App to offer 40 types of services in different areas to individuals, expanding its revenue collection from Rs4 billion to Rs10 billion annually.

Nauman Sikandar Mirza, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Foodpanda, at the launch said: “Foodpanda’s core ethos is to constantly innovate, stretch the limits and leverage technology to find great solutions for meeting the evolving needs of the people.

“Before we start actual drone deliveries for our customers, there are still many aspects that need to be thoroughly evaluated and locked in, including technical, operational and legal matters and we are vigorously addressing all these. The successful test flight and delivery today has been highly encouraging and proves we are on the right flight path.”

This a great example of how a company can keep progressing by using innovative methods to expand to all types of areas and maximum people rather than restricting to its initial target market. We hope to see such striking ideas in the future as well and for the proper start of this drone delivery initiative.

You might want to see carefully next time you spot something like this in the sky! Could be a UFO or maybe even you food delivery through pandafly!
